    Have Times Changed Much?

Tuesday, September 9, 2008, 01:20 PM EST [General]

Sometimes, I'm sure that you may have heard someone say "I wish I could live back then, that would be so kewl!"  But since hundred or a few thousand of years ago, some things have not changed.  You still had to work to put food on the table, even in communities/clans each person was assigned a job function that they did on a regular basis.

Housing was simple, you just need a place to keep you warm during the winters and to store some of your equipment or even farm animals.  Now it seems like just having a roof over your head is not enough for most people, it has to be big and have a lot of features.  I will admit that air conditioning is a huge plus at times, Of course the communities and clans always did settle near some body of water which would also be nice to just jump in a river, creek, pond or lake to cool off.

Greed and jealousy still plague the lands, there is always a war, battle or feud of some sort going on, even if it doesn't make CNN New lines, it's still going on.  Communication is now faster, but can always be taken away by anyone that wishes to cut you off and do harm to you or your community, same as back then.

The wealth of knowledge though has changed over the years where there is a library at your finger tips and self-help books were, if you are willing to put the time and effort into reading and practicing the self-help book, you can learn a new trade, even master it depending on how much time you put into it.  Were as back then any trade information were indeed trade-secrets and the only way to get a glimpse of how something is partly done is by becoming an apprentice.  That is if they decide to take you one as an apprentice.  Other information that was verbally passed down from generation to generation has been posted on the web, but there are still some things that are still only passed down verbally.

Trying to change who you are has gotten harder.  Can't just walk into another town and claim a new name and start a new life.  Now you need some sort of ID and validation for almost everything now.  Even carrying cash to put down for a night stay at a motel is a no go unless you have a credit card and driver's license.  If you wanted to change your past now and get a new start, you would have to either join witness protection or become a really good hacker and change all your information in the systems.

Which there are other things that have improved through out time, but that is a long list, and most of it is just a huge plus to make life easier or just for show, but not exactly needed to survive.  Also at what's the cost of all these amenities in the long run?

If I had to go back to the way things were 1000 to 2000 years ago, I would mostly be sadden by the loss of knowledge that I was once able to get at my finger tips.  But I would be extremely happy that I would never have to hear another ringing phone.  What do you think you would miss?

Speaking of change, Samhain is coming up soon.  Have you thought about what you would like to change or improve about yourself in the coming year?

Also speaking of a year, I can't believe that it has almost been a year since my last blog post.  It only seems like a few months not 12 months.

    Time

Sunday, September 30, 2007, 10:34 PM EST [General]

You know time is a funny thing, everything revolves around time...time to go to work, time for this meeting, time to cook dinner, time to pick up the kid from practice. People stress out about time and in that make other people stress out because they feel their time is important. When I was younger, I got stuck in this situation with time and would stress out about it. Naturally, as I grew older time went by quicker, I felt like I didn't have time for anything. Granted I didn't take it over board like some people who get angry because they have to wait in line for their coffee and they are running late, if you are really running that late, why bother stopping for some name brand coffee and acting like a prick to the people that work there or make the other people in line deal with your negativity. If your running that late, do you really have time for coffee? Anyways, a few years ago I was so over loaded with things and not enough time where I just decided that time doesn't matter. I just gave up on trying to get things done on time where I just decided they would get done when they get done.

Oddly enough, as soon as I stopped worrying about time, I stopped stressing about thing. Once I stopped stressing about it, things like tasks, projects and chores became easier. They would get done at or before the due date, without the stress of time, I was able to see things a little more clearly which made things easer to do. I even found other ways to get other odd ball tasks done quicker. Everything just seemed to run smoother once I gave up on time, I even found more time to take to relax, enjoy time with the family, meditate or enjoy some time to myself.
So if you are stressing about not having enough time, just try saying "Time doesn't matter, it will get done when it gets done." Some of you might think that is crazy but if you are working on a project and stressed on the timeline, you won't see things that can block the progress of the project because you just wanted it done. With a clearer mind you can see what might occur and fix it before it happens. Even though there are something that you enjoy doing and you want to get back to, just relax, get the projects out of the way first, get them done right so you won't have to worry about and you can get back to the things that you enjoy doing. Hopefully in a few weeks my projects will be done where I can get back to having more time for my research and studies. In the mean time, I will take what I can get. Like this past weekend, I was able to enjoy Pagan Pride Day in Louisville for a good hour and a half, even though I would have like more time there, I was thankful for the time that I had there. At least that is just my take on time.

    About Me

Wednesday, April 18, 2007, 01:23 PM EST [General]

I've never been much for putting up information about myself, but I feel that the time has come. As you know, my name is Chronos. I have been practicing and studying Paganism for 12 years. The first two was general paganism and Buddhism (kinda short of, mostly reading out of curiosity never practiced). But the past 10 years I have been studying, practicing, and researching information on Traditional Celtic Witchcraft. Of course while studying and researching Traditional beliefs, I have also looked into crystals, herblism, kitchen witchery, druidism, wicca, celtic wicca, general energy workings, strega, tarot, runes, pictish witchcraft, and Celtic Shamanism. Sometimes while you are trying to research information that is thousand of years old you come to a point where you are not able to find any other information at that time, so I feel it is best to learn other things that could be useful later on, sometimes that information will lead me to other information about traditional ways. It's always best to learn as much as you can.

I currently run the non-profit site www.paganlore.com since 2004, which is a dedicated repository for information that I have gathered or was submitted by others about traditional ways, and even some information about Wicca, to help enlighten readers about the difference between Traditional Witchcraft and Wicca. The site also contains other information about energy workings, runes, tarot, crystals, herbs and more.

I am also a columnist for www.pagapages.org since September of 2006. I write a monthly article about the uses and lores of crystals in the "Chronos Crystal Corner" column.

May the winds be with you and the best of luck in the path that you have choosen,
